UMMC takes the top spot again!

The final game of the Fonbet Russian Cup in Yekaterinburg turned into a showcase of UMMC. The team of Dmitrii Donskov took control from the first minutes and confidently secured the victory. The players from Kursk tried to fight back, but the “Foxes” were simply too fast, accurate, and organized - 89:63, and the 12th Cup goes to UMMC’s collection!

Scores by quarter: 25:17, 22:16, 22:19, 20:11

In the opening minutes, Dynamo came out strong and took the lead. However, a three-pointer from Klyundikova restored the balance, and then three-pointers from Lisec, Papova, and Tretyakova gave UMMC a comfortable 9-point lead. The white-and-blue team slowed down and started making mistakes, which the hosts gladly took advantage of. The first quarter ended with a score of 25:17 in favor of UMMC.   

In the second quarter, the hosts continued to dictate the pace of the game. Alex Bentley hit the basket from beyond the arc twice, and Maryia Papova added another from long range. Kursk tried to keep up, but Bentley’s new three-pointer solidified the lead of UMMC - 14 points. By halftime, the scoreboard showed a comfortable 47:33 for the Yekaterinburg team.       

The third quarter also went to the tournament leaders. The Dynamo players tried to turn the game around, Shtanko and Frolkina each hit accurate long-range shots, but they couldn’t close the gap with UMMC. Klyundikova dominated in the paint and recorded a double-double during this period. Before the decisive quarter, the reigning champions led by a 17-point margin, but finals are often unpredictable - the fight was far from over.    

All questions were resolved at the start of the final period. Kseniia Levchenko added an accurate three-pointer, extending the lead to 22 points, and from that point on the intrigue disappeared.   The Yekaterinburg team confidently closed out the game, giving no chances to the visitors. Final score: 89:63, and UMMC becomes the holder of the Fonbet Russian Cup for the 12th time!   Dynamo once again settles for the silver medal.

The top scorer for the hosts was Alex Bentley with 28 points. Maria Klyundikova posted a double-double - 21 points, 13 rebounds. Maryia Papova contributed 11 points and 5 rebounds.

In the squad of Dynamo, the top performers were Marina Goldyreva with 13 points and Olga Frolkina with 12.
