UMMC – finalist of the Russian Cup!

The semifinal of the Fonbet Russian Cup in Yekaterinburg turned out to be tense, but predictable – UMMC confirmed their status as favorites and confidently defeated MBA-MGUSiT. Despite the visitors’ attempts to put up a fight, Dmitrii Donskov’s team controlled the game and secured a 65-59 victory.

The opening quarter began with active play from the red-and-whites, who even took a three-point lead. However, the home team quickly regained control and pulled ahead. The Moscow team relied on long-range shots, but they lacked consistency, unlike Anastasiia Shilova’s accurate shot towards the end of the quarter. The result of the first period was 15:11 in favor of the defending champions.

In the second quarter, Maryia Papova set the tone for the “Foxes” with an accurate three-pointer. The Moscow team tried to keep up, not allowing the Yekaterinburg team to extend their lead further, but UMMC’s constant pressure prevented them from easing up. By halftime, the home team’s lead remained solid at 34:29.

The third quarter was marked by a tough struggle, with a six-point difference maintained almost until the middle of the period. Although MBA-MGUSiT outscored their opponents in this quarter (23-12), it only allowed the Moscow team to slightly reduce the gap. The Yekaterinburg team controlled the final moments and deservedly advanced to the final. The final score was 65-59, and UMMC continues their trophy chase! The best players of the game were Anastasiia Shilova (UMMC) and Yulia Savukova (MBA-MGUSiT).

The top scorer for the home team was Alex Bentley with 15 points. Both Anastasiia Shilova and Olairi Kosu scored 10 points each.

In the squad of MBA-MGUSiT, the highest-scoring player was Evgeniia Frolkina with 14 points and 5 rebounds, while Yulia Savukova added 11 points and 5 rebounds.

In two days, on February 1, MBA-MGUSiT will play for third place against NIKA-Luzales, while UMMC will face Dynamo Kursk for the championship trophy. The games will start at 13:00 and 16:00, respectively.
