Junior “Foxes” suffer heavy defeat to Superleague leaders

The UMMC farm team fought until the last minute in the rematch of the FONBET Russian Championship - Superleague, but Spartak confirmed its status as the favorite and once again claimed victory with a score of 60:91.

Scores by quarter: 14:22, 8:15, 17:31, 21:23

The game in Yekaterinburg started intensely: Alena Burmakina opened the scoring with a three-pointer, setting the tone for the first quarter. However, the players of Evgeni Korshunov quickly got into the game, seizing the initiative. The Yekaterinburg team tried to catch up with the guests using long-range shots from Korkina and other players from mid-range, but the first quarter ended with a score of 14:22 in favor of Spartak.

In the second period, the teams exchanged three-pointers, but the UMMC farm team could not close the double-digit gap, which the guests confidently maintained. The St. Petersburg team used their speed and physical conditioning advantage, leaving the home team in the role of chasing. The teams went into halftime with a score of 22:37 in favor of Spartak.

After the break, the home team returned with a mindset focused on an equal fight. In the early minutes of the third quarter, the younger “Foxes” successfully held off the guests’ attack, but then the guests made a series of successful steals and long-range shots. Alena Burmakina, who scored 16 points in the game, tried to support her team with accurate attacks under the basket, but the score of 39:68 at the end of the quarter indicated a clear lead for the visiting team.

The final segment did not bring a comeback for the team of Elena Kuzmina. The experience and teamwork of Spartak prevailed, while the UMMC-Junior players lacked the energy to get back into the game. The St. Petersburg team confidently finished the encounter with a score of 60:91, confirming their status as leaders of the championship. Despite the defeat, the hosts showed character and will continue to fight in the upcoming games.
