UMMC-Junior defeat the newcomers of the Super League

On October 10, in Vladimir, UMMC-Junior played their first official away game in the Fonbet Super League, meeting the local “Vladimir Lionesses”. The encounter ended in a hard-fought victory for the team of Elena Kuzmina.

Both teams started confidently and made it clear that they were only focused on victory. The juniors kept pace with the “Lionesses” until the middle of the first quarter, but by the midpoint of the segment, they began to fall behind. The first ten minutes ended with a score of 21:16 in favor of the hosts.

In the second quarter, the Yekaterinburg team managed to reduce the deficit, but the “Lionesses” still maintained their advantage. The highest-scoring player of the game by halftime was Sofia Golubeva (10 points). Nevertheless, the teams went for the halftime break with the hosts still leading 41:34.

The third quarter began with confident points from Maria Sedyakina, which lifted the spirits of the Yekaterinburg team. With four minutes left, Miroslava Sudarikova scored an important three-pointer, putting the “Foxes” ahead. The “Lionesses” tried to erase the deficit, and the quarter ended with a score of 57:60 in favor of the guests.

After the final break, the game was closely contested. The “Vladimir Lionesses” took the lead with eight seconds left. However, UMMC-Junior were not going to give up: Sofia Golubeva regained the advantage with six seconds remaining in the game. Both teams used all their timeouts. The final score of the game was 75:76: +1 point in favor of UMMC-Junior.   

In the squad of the “Foxes”, Sofia Golubeva became the scoring leader, recording a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Maria Sedyakina added 12 points and 5 rebounds. Anastasia Odintsova also logged a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

In the squad of the “Lionesses”, Viktoriia Shcherbakova had 12 points and 9 rebounds. Ksenia Mikhaylova scored 12 points and grabbed 1 rebound. Lidia Malakhova contributed 10 points, 6 rebounds.   

The second game between the opponents will take place again in Vladimir on October 11 at 21:00.
