The final series of games for the third place in the Russian Super League Fonbet Championship has finished. On May 5, the UMMC junior team played against Sparta&K-2 from Vidnoje at home in Verkhnyaya Pyshma. Following the results of the decisive game, the guests emerged victorious.
Quarters’ results: 11:11, 11:14, 14:14, 22:25
The first quarter was tough. The basketball players from Vidnoje opened the scoring, while the hosts started scoring points only in the fourth minute. A three-pointer from Polina Kuznetsova and an accurate mid-range shot from Daria Sharova leveled the score. By the end of the quarter, the scoreboard showed equal numbers. The first ten-minute period ended in a tie 11:11.
In the second quarter, albeit minimally, the guests from the Moscow region proved to be stronger. In this quarter, the hosts' shots were successful from mid-range only. The teams went for the halftime break with a score of 22:25 in favor of Sparta.
In the second half, the game once again became competitive. In the third quarter, unfortunately, the situation with three-pointers did not change for the players from Yekaterinburg, but this didn’t stop the hosts from maintaining a minimal distance in the scoreline, thus before the final part of the game the score was 36:39 in favor of the “red and black” team. Allowing the guests to take a 10-point lead in the final quarter from an equal score, the “Foxes” initiated a successful series of attacks on the opponents' basket with accurate shots from beyond the arc. Thus, Maria Sedyakina, Daria Sharova and Polina Kuznetsova contributed 15 valuable points to the team's tally. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough for Tatyana Fefilova's team to secure victory, and at the end of the final game, they finished fourth, losing to Sparta&K-2 with a score of 58:64.
In the squad of UMMC-Junior, Polina Kuznetsova became the top-scorer, reaching a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds; she also made it into the symbolic top five based on the playoff results. Daria Sidorova had 12 points and 2 rebounds. Daria Sharova collected 10 points and 2 rebounds. Elizaveta Kolotovkina and Maria Sedyakina added 8 points apiece.
In the squad of Sparta&K-2, Alina Bazhenova became the scoring leader with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Sabrina Dovnar-Zapolskaya accumulated 18 points and 6 rebounds. Sofia Lyulina had 11 points and 6 rebounds.
