UMMC defeat Sparta & K at home

On March 11, UMMC basketball team played a home game of the third round of the regular Premier League season against Sparta & K from Vidnoje.

The first quarter saw a tough struggle. The visiting team opened the scoring and took the lead for a while. However, successful three-pointers from Anastasiia Shilova and a long-range shot from Viktoriia Zavialova leveled the score. After 10 minutes of play, the Yekaterinburg team was ahead – 18:13.

The second quarter continued in the same vein. The game was closely contested, and only before halftime, Megan Walker secured the lead for UMMC with two mid-range shots – 28:26.

The situation began to change in the third period. Two accurate shots from behind the arc by Alex Bentley increased the gap and an effective three-pointer from Anastasiia Shilova and a mid-range shot by Megan Walker brought the difference to 10 points, the score was 39:29. The advantage continued to grow, and before the final stretch, the scoreboard showed 49:36 in favor of the home team.

In the final quarter, BC UMMC completely controlled the course of the game. The maximum difference in the score reached 22 points, and it remained that way until the end of the encounter. The final buzzer sealed a confident victory of UMMC with a score of 68:46.

- We won – that's good, but the quality of the game wasn’t great. All the players on our team understand this. This is not the level we should be showing. We have some serious games ahead of us. It felt like we were just warming up in the first two quarters, and in the second half we started working. However, there is still no satisfaction from the victory. Each player will draw conclusions and come out more prepared for the next game.

In the squad of UMMC, Alexandria Bentley became the top-scorer with 12 points. Anastasiia Shilova, Megan Walker and Victoria Macaulay added 10 points apiece. Olairi Kosu had 9 points and 9 rebounds.

In the squad of Sparta & K, Sabina Abaidullina accumulated 12 points. Anna Pozdnyakova earned 10 points, Anna Kuznetsova finished with 9 points.

The “Foxes” will play the next game on the road on March 15 in Samara. The Yekaterinburg team will face the local Samara. The live broadcast starts at 8.00 p.m.
