Juniors beat Spartak in Noginsk
On March 4, as part of the regular championship of the Women's Super League, the juniors played on the road in Noginsk against the local Spartak. The encounter ended in victory for the team of Tatyana Fefilova.
It should be noted that the previous meeting of the teams within the first round of the Fonbet Russian Championship ended in victory for the Yekaterinburg team with a score of 71:59.
Quarters’ results: 12:28, 14:19, 29:20, 21:13.
The juniors looked confident in the starting quarter. Two successful three-pointers from Polina Kuznetsova and Nina Ulchenkova, along with accurate mid-range shots from Maria Sedyakina extended the lead to 8 points. By the end of the quarter, the scoreboard showed 12:28 in favour of UMMC-Junior.
The second quarter turned out to be more competitive, however, the younger “Foxes” managed to increase the advantage to twofold. The teams went for the halftime break with a score of 26:47 in favour of the UMMC youth team.
In the third quarter, the course of events changed - the hosts won the local victory on points. However, the effective actions of Daria Sidorova, Daria Kamasheva and Margarita Kuziakina did not allow the opponents to seriously cut the deficit. Before the final quarter, UMMC-Junior was in the lead – 55:67.
The gained advantage was squandered in the fourth quarter. Spartak closed the gap to two shots’ distance halfway through the allotted time. But the Yekaterinburg team, ranking first in the tournament championship, did not allow their opponents to gain any further advantage and secured another victory – 76:80.
Based on the results of the game, in the squad of UMMC-Junior, Daria Sidorova and Margarita Kuziakina scored 13 points apiece. Daria Kamasheva added 12 points, Maria Sedyakina had 11 points.
In the squad of Spartak, Alina Bezborodova logged a double-double with 27 points and 16 rebounds. Kseniya Chernova accumulated 15 points, Marina Krivolapova finished with 13 points.
The juniors will play the next game on the road in Ivanovo. On March 7, they will face the local Energia. The game starts at 8:30 p.m. (Yekaterinburg time).
