Juniors Beat Platov in Verkhnyaya Pyshma

On February 24, on the home court of the Sports Palace of UMMC in Verkhnyaya Pyshma, as part of the third round of the regular Fonbet Championship of Russia - Super League, UMMC-Junior faced Platov from Novocherkassk. The game ended with a confident win of the hosts.

Quarters’ results: 17:12, 33:15, 37:6, 32:8

The first quarter turned out to be competitive. Being at the bottom of the standings, Platov fought hard against the home team that is ranking second. However, the juniors won the quarter – 17:12.

In the second ten-minute period, thanks to two successful shots from behind the arc by Nina Ulchenkova, the “Foxes” made a leap forward, and after half the time the gap in the score became double-digit. By the halftime, UMMC-Junior secured a 23-point lead - 50:27.

In the second half, the nature of the game did not change. The hosts continued to dominate on the court, systematically increasing their advantage. Before the final quarter, the scoreboard showed 87:33 in favour of Tatyana Fefilova’s team, and the final buzzer sealed the victory of the “black-and-orange” team with a score of 119:41.

Nina Ulchenkova commented:

-          In the first quarter, we had many turnovers and didn’t defend aggressively enough, allowing the opponent to score “easy” shots. Later we corrected this and began to gain an advantage, which ultimately led us to victory.

In the squad of UMMC-Junior, Daria Sidorova became the top-scorer with 17 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds. Nina Ulchenkova added 16 points and 7 assists. Margarita Kuziakina and Daria Sharova accumulated 14 points each, 6 and 2 rebounds respectively.

In the squad of Platov, Anastasia Gladilina harvested 13 points and 9 rebounds. Anastasia Fedorova had 11 points, 4 assists. Oxana Bubnova scored 9 points and got 9 rebounds.

UMMC-Junior will play the next game on February 27, at home. They will face Peresvet-UFU from Rostov-on-Don. The game starts at 5.00 p.m.
