The opening of the Fonbet Russian Cup took place in Yekaterinburg. A series of semifinal games were held at the DIVS arena: Dynamo (Kursk) beat Samara, and the UMMC basketball players defeated Nadezhda from Orenburg in the semifinals.
It is worth reminding that the previous game within the Fonbet Russian Championship ended in victory for the team from the Orenburg region.

Apparently, the recent defeat of the “Foxes” greatly invigorated them - they took the court with an obvious determination to win. From the first minutes of the starting quarter, the UMMC players demonstrated dominance, securing a comfortable 9-point lead over the Orenburg team. At the end of the period, the score was 21:12 in favour of the “Foxes”.
In the second quarter, UMMC continued to lead. The effective shots from behind the arc by Alex Bentley and Alexandra Stolyar are worth notice. In the middle of the allotted time, the difference in the score reached 14 points; nevertheless, Nadezhda still cut the gap towards the end. The teams left the court for halftime with the numbers 36:28 in favour of the home team.
In the third quarter, the situation didn’t change. The “Foxes” didn’t experience any serious problems and continued to systematically increase their advantage - 56:38 before the final part.
In the last ten-minute period, the Orenburg team managed to achieve a local victory, but this didn’t affect the final result. The team of Dmitrii Donskov reached the final, beating Nadezhda with a score of 70:54.

- First of all, I want to congratulate Yekaterinburg on the victory! I think the game turned out to be good. We worked on our mistakes after the last defeat in Orenburg and, perhaps, the only thing we couldn’t cope with was rebounds. We'll work on this. But on the whole, the mood and desire were great!
In the squad of UMMC, Alexandria Bentley became the top-scorer, registering 20 points. Tina Krajisnik earned 14 points and 9 rebounds. Maryia Papova harvested 12 points and 4 rebounds.
In the squad of Nadezhda, the highest-scoring player was Unique Thompson, who logged a double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds. Viktoriia Medvedeva collected 16 points and 4 rebounds, Ashley Beverly Kelley scored 11 points.
The final game of the Fonbet Russian Cup will take place this Sunday. The UMMC basketball players will face their opponents from Dynamo (Kursk). The result of the encounter will determine the champion. The game starts at 6.00 p.m.
