The 2025 Russian Women’s Basketball Super Cup took place in Yekaterinburg, where the home team, UMMC, playing as the reigning national champion and Russian Cup holder, secured a hard-fought victory over last season’s Premier League runner-up, Nadezhda Orenburg, with a score of 83–81. A total of 6,514 fans witnessed the Ural team claim yet another trophy at the UMMC Arena — an impressive attendance figure by the standards of Russian women’s basketball!

The visitors started strong, taking a 9–3 lead by the fourth minute after a long-range shot from Kseniia Afanasenko. By the eighth minute, the hosts had turned the game around — a precise three-pointer from Karina Nizamova put UMMC ahead 15–13. The first quarter ended 21–15, completing a 14–2 run that put the Foxes back in control.

The game remained closely contested, with Nadezhda providing strong resistance. In the third quarter, they even tied the score at 41–41, and by the start of the final quarter, UMMC held a narrow two-point lead at 58–56. The support of the home crowd proved crucial to Yekaterinburg’s victory. With 47 seconds remaining, Nizamova hit a long-range shot to extend the lead to 83–76. While some spectators may have relaxed, the players stayed focused, knowing that their opponents were still competitive. Indeed, Nadezhda’s American player Ashley Beverly scored five consecutive points (2 + 3), keeping the game tightly contested right up to the final buzzer.

With just a few seconds remaining in regulation, Nadezhda, trailing 81–83, had one final chance - either to win the game with a long-range shot or force overtime. However, they were unable to capitalize on the possession, and the UMMC players celebrated their tenth consecutive domestic victory. This streak includes three Premier League playoff titles, three Russian Cups, and now a fourth consecutive Super Сup. In other words, the team from the Ural capital has not suffered a tournament defeat since late April 2022, when they fell to Dynamo Kursk in the Premier League superfinal series.

As for the current triumph under head coach Dmitrii Donskov, a unique achievement was secured by point guard Viktoriia Tretyakova. She is now the only five-time Super Cup winner, while shooting guard and team captain Anastasiia Shilova, along with two Belarusian national team players from UMMC - the naturalized American playmaker Alexandria Bentley and forward Maryia Papova - each have four Super Cup titles. In addition to the aforementioned players, the victorious 2025 Super Cup squad featured guards Karina Nizamova and the game’s MVP, Jovana Nogic (Serbia); forwards Anastasia Olairi Kosu and Megan Walker (USA); and centers Maria Klyundikova (formerly Vadeeva), Zhosselina Maiga, and Eva Lisec (Slovenia).

Alongside the players and the coaching staff — led by head coach Dmitrii Donskov and his closest assistants, two-time Olympic champion Olga Korosteleva (Barysheva), Denis Sevastjanov, and Alexandr Lisichkin — the club’s management also celebrated the Super Cup victory: UMMC president Andrei Kozitsyn and vice-president Igor Kudryashkin. They dedicate significant time and effort to providing strong financial and organizational support to the team, and this commitment consistently delivers results. UMMC remains the undisputed powerhouse of Russian women’s basketball. The current title marks the team’s 35th domestic trophy. Including international titles, their total rises to 45 trophies, even though the Ural squad has been unable to compete in European competitions over the past four seasons.
