Foxes claim convincing road win over Sparta in Vidnoje
In the second round of the Fonbet Russian Premier League, the reigning champions from Yekaterinburg earned a commanding 88–60 victory over Sparta & K in Vidnoje. The league leaders controlled the game from start to finish, winning every quarter.
Quarter scores: 13–21, 12–21, 20–24, 15–22
From the opening minutes, it was clear the visitors came focused and ready to secure the win without delay. Although the hosts struck first, Klyundikova responded with composed play in the paint, converting efficiently around the rim. Bentley and Shilova repeatedly punished the defense from the three-point range, pushing the Foxes’ lead to seven midway through the first period. By the first-quarter buzzer, the scoreboard read 21–13, as Dmitrii Donskov’s team had firmly set the tone and dictated the tempo.
In the second quarter, Vidnoje tried to increase their defensive intensity, tightening passing lanes and applying pressure. However, Nizamova and Nogic calmly answered with precise three-pointers, then Bentley and Papova hit from deep, stretching the lead to 11. Sergei Danilin’s squad fought to stay in the game, but the Foxes executed their half-court offense with both variety and precision. At halftime, UMMC led 42-25, clearly controlling the flow of the game.
The third quarter got off to a flying start with Shilova draining a long-range shot, sparking another Foxes’ run. She quickly followed with a second three-pointer, and Tretyakova, Bentley, and Lisec added more from beyond the arc, slicing through the hosts’ defense. Sparta & K found an answer only through Sofia Lyulina, but her efforts couldn’t change the momentum. Heading into the final period, the reigning champions held a commanding 21-point lead at 66-45.
In the final quarter, the only question remaining was whether UMMC would reach 100 points. Credit to the Vidnoje team — they fought to the very end, stepped up defensively, and kept the visitors from hitting that milestone. Nevertheless, the Foxes were flawless — fast transitions from defense to offense, smart ball movement, and strong control of the boards. The final score: 88–60 in favor of Yekaterinburg.
UMMC’s next game is against Nadezhda Orenburg on February 23 at DIVS Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
