Forbes: “UMMC women’s basketball team wins Russian Championship for the 18th time”
The UMMC women’s basketball team, based in Yekaterinburg, has claimed the Russian Championship title for the 18th time. In the final playoff series, they defeated Nadezhda from Orenburg.
On Thursday, May 1, the third game of the Women’s Premier League finals took place at the Sports Complex “Orenburzhye” in Orenburg, where UMMC faced the local club Nadezhda. The Yekaterinburg team won decisively with a score of 88–56 (24-24, 23-12, 25-10, 16-10). UMMC swept the best-of-five series 3–0, securing the Russian Championship title. According to the press service of the Russian Basketball Federation, 2,500 spectators attended the game.
The top scorer of the game was American point guard Ashley Beverly-Kelley from Nadezhda, who put up 16 points. For UMMC, American point guard Alexandria Bentley led with 15 points.
The MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the playoffs was UMMC’s Russian center Maria Klyundikova. The All-Star Five also included three other players from the finals — Unique Thompson and Ashley Beverly-Kelley (both from Nadezhda), and Alexandria Bentley (UMMC).
UMMC have now won the Russian Championship for the 18th time in their history. The team from Yekaterinburg previously claimed titles in 2002–2003, from 2009 to 2021, and again in 2023 and 2024. Founded in 1938, UMMC remain the most decorated women’s basketball club in Russia.
