A major sports event took place in Seattle – the unveiling of a bronze statue honoring one of the greatest basketball players of our time, Sue Bird. The sculpture was installed next to the arena where the women’s team Seattle Storm plays its home games, the team for which Bird played the majority of her career.

Sue Bird herself attended the ceremony – a five-time Olympic champion, four-time WNBA champion, thirteen-time All-Star, and five-time Russian league champion.

In Russia, the basketball star is especially remembered for her performances with UMMC Yekaterinburg from 2011 to 2014.

“I’m happy that this statue can inspire a new generation of girls and show that women can be champions too,” said Sue Bird.
