UMMC roll past Dynamo to advance to the semifinals
In the quarterfinal of the Fonbet Russian Cup in Yekaterinburg, UMMC once again left Dynamo Moscow with no chance. The reigning champions confidently confirmed their status as favorites, reaching the semifinals with a 102–68 victory.
Scores by quarter: 33–19, 30–13, 16–17, 23–19.
The Foxes opened the game on a 9–0 run, with Bentley knocking down two three-pointers and Shilova adding another from deep to set the tone early. Dynamo didn’t get on the board until nearly three minutes into the game. However, UMMC’s sharp perimeter shooting — led by Tretyakova, Klyundikova, and Nizamova — quickly put the game out of reach. Olga Petrova’s three-pointer for Dynamo at the end of the first quarter made the score 33–19, but the hosts continued to control the tempo.
In the second quarter, the league leaders turned up the heat. Bentley, Walker, and Tretyakova kept hitting from deep, with Dynamo struggling to respond. By halftime, the scoreboard showed an almost knockout — 63–32, a 30-point advantage for the home team.
After the break, Dynamo tried to mount a comeback. Zaitseva and Komissarenko combined for 14 points in the first half of the quarter, sparking a brief rally. But the Foxes, enjoying a comfortable lead, played with composure and never lost control. Even though the visitors outscored them slightly in this period (16–17), the score heading into the final quarter spoke for itself — 79–49.
The main question in the final quarter was whether the hosts would reach triple digits. The Yekaterinburg team continued to play with joy, while the coaching staff gave some minutes to juniors Samusheva and Golubeva, with the former even contributing 2 points. The 100-point mark was reached after a basket by Zhosselina Maiga. The final buzzer sealed a 102–68 rout, sending UMMC safely into the semifinals of the Fonbet Russian Cup, scheduled for January 29–31 in Syktyvkar.
UMMC: Bentley (21 points, 1 rebound, 4 assists), Klyundikova – double-double (17 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists), Walker (13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists).
