UMMC edge out Nadezhda in tough road game

The regular-season Fonbet Russian Championship – Premier League game in Orenburg fully lived up to its status as the marquee matchup of the round. In a fierce battle between Nadezhda and UMMC, fans witnessed an intense game of basketball, but the reigning champions ultimately secured a road victory — 64-76.

Quarter scores: 18-21, 18-7, 15-15, 24-14

The first quarter started at a fast tempo: the visitors opened the scoring with a precise shot from Alex Bentley, setting the tone for the opening stretch. The teams traded baskets, keeping each other under constant pressure. After a long-range shot from Viktoriia Tretyakova, the home team responded with a three-pointer from Ashley Beverly. Despite the efforts of the Yekaterinburg team, Orenburg finished the quarter stronger — 24-22 in favor of Evgeni Ivanov’s squad.

In the second quarter, Nadezhda tried to build on their early advantage: Zotkina extended the lead, hitting from beyond the arc, forcing Dmitrii Donskov to call a timeout. After a string of turnovers, the Foxes finally found their rhythm, gradually closing the gap and even seizing the initiative. In the final moments of the quarter, an impressive three-pointer from Bentley put UMMC comfortably ahead at 40–44 heading into halftime.

The third period proved to be a turning point: the hosts struggled to score for nearly four minutes, while the league leaders methodically increased their lead. An 8–0 run put Orenburg in a serious trouble. The period ended 55–63, leaving Nadezhda in the role of the chaser.

In the final quarter, UMMC ramped up the pressure to the maximum: Walker drained another three-pointer, stretching their lead to 11 points. The Foxes skillfully controlled the pace, while long-range shots from Walker and Jovana Nogic kept the visitors on their way to victory. Zotkina tried to spark a comeback for the hosts, but Orenburg simply didn’t have enough left in the tank. UMMC confidently closed out the game, securing a 64–76 victory.
