08.03.19 | For the 12th time in a row UMMC qualified for the EuroLeague Women Final Four

In Game 2 of the EuroLeague Women Quarter-Final series the defending Champion once again came up on top against the Champion of Latvia and for the 13th time in club’s history (12th time in a row) qualified for the EuroLeague Women Final Four.

Game 1 of the Quarter-Final series in Ekaterinburg ended with UMMC celebrating a confident win – 78:45. At home, the Latvian team tried hard, but played not much better. During Game 2 in Riga the hosts were able to strengthen some of the game components. They showed good long-range shooting percentage and eventually collected half of team points after downtown shots (30). On the other hand the hosts had catastrophic troubles in the field goal percentage. It happened so because UMMC built and excellent defense and TTT Riga players got stuck in it like in a spider’s web.

In the debut minutes, UMMC collected an advantage and kept on increasing the leadership with every next quarter. Miguel Mendez’s team were totally in control of the situation on court and tightly held the game strings in their hands. In the end, UMMC outplayed the rivals in all game components except the 3-point shooting percentage. UMMC celebrated the second confident win, finished the Quarter-Final series 2:0 and in the end for the 12th time in a row qualified for the EuroLeague Women Final Four.

On April 12, competing in the EuroLeague Women Semi-Finals UMMC will take on Hungarian Sopron Basket. The Final matches will take place on April 14. The venue place of the tournament will be specified later.

UMMC center Emma Meesseman was outstanding for the winners. Last Final Four MVP scored a personal competition-best 27 points to spearhead the team of the gameday.

Few UMMC players also scored double figures. Brittney Griner collected 19 points and 8 rebounds, Kayla MacBride gathered 11 points and 6 rebounds. Courtney Vandesloot was one-step away from double-double – 9 points and 9 assists. Alba Torrens contributed 16 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 points.

Gunta Basko scored 13 points for the home side.

Foxes are having the next match against Dynamo Novocibirsk competing in the Championship of Russia Quarter-Finals. We remind that the Quarter-Final series of the domestic tournament will be the best of three games according to 1+2 scheme. Game one will be played on March 18 in Novosibirsk. Game 2 will take place on March 24 in Ekaterinburg. In case if Game 3 might be necessary, it will be played on March 25 in Ekaterinburg.
